A BGS Odyssey

At the very end of last term, Classics Club was treated to a sneak preview of “Journey from Troy”, a board game created by our very own BGS alum, Sam Rapier.

Following the story of Odysseus’s dangerous journey across the sea to try to get home, players must work co-operatively to defeat famous monsters like Scylla and the Cyclops, and above all keep Odysseus’ men alive! (Can you succeed where Odysseus failed?) But that isn’t all! The game features an exciting twist, which I won’t spoil here. It’s a great innovation that I personally haven’t seen in another board game – you’ll just have to wait and see when the game is released (soon!).

This isn’t Sam’s only experience with making a board game. “Journey from Troy” comes hot on the heels of “Escape from Pompeii”, pictured in the foreground, below. “Escape from Pompeii” is a four-player game in which players must win favour from the gods and escape from the looming threat of Mt Vesuvius before it buries the town for good; it also features trivia questions so you can learn more about the town of Pompeii. Educational and exciting! Again, the game has some unique mechanics that I won’t spoil here. For more information on these games and more, head to Sam’s company: www.exekiasgames.com/.
