Year 9 trip to Kew Gardens 2025

At the end of last term, our Year 9 students went to Kew Gardens to support their work on world biomes.  They visited many of the pleasures of the gardens, such as The Treetop Walkway, The Palm House and The Princess of Wales conservatory.

In addition, 2 students from each class were selected as winners by their class teachers with their winning photo.  The winning entries, we are sure you will agree that these are stunning!

"I chose this photo as I loved the way the colour of the flowers against the green leaves stands out. It has been taken from such an angle that it gives a great perspective of the plant."

"This photo beautifully captures a quiet moment in an outdoor setting. It blends human design with nature, seen in the branch-shaped chairs. The fallen leaves scattered across the ground add texture and warmth. The crow perched on one of the chairs adds a focal point, giving life and narrative to the photo. I took it at the Gift Shop in Kew Gardens."

“I chose this image as my favourite because of the fact it showcased the lushness of the jungle. It also contains a wide range of vegetation and plant life, adding another texture of detail. And its main feature being the beautiful waterfall.”

“I chose the photo because you can see the small water droplets and humidity. It's not a big plant and not overwhelming, but I like the quality and attention to small details.”

Rainforest Pathway “This photo shows a pathway through the rainforest biome in the Palm House and was taken at the end of one of the paths in the Palm House. I chose this photo because it resembles the floor of a rainforest, with lots of trees blocking out the sky, and multiple layers of unique plants and foliage.”

  • Freya (9E)

“I took this photo just outside Palm House among lots of flowers and geese. Personally, I love roses and they are one of my favourite flowers. I enjoyed walking around this area and taking in the sea of pinks and other colours. It was really pretty. I was drawn to this particular flower due to how bright it was and how well it had bloomed. I also thought it was interestingly standing very upright and above all the other roses around it. I feel like out of all my photos, this best captures one of my favourite parts of the trip and represents the beauty Kew Gardens has to offer.”

“I picked this as my best photo due to the straight composition and the leaves obscuring the camera to create a sense of immersion, as if you yourself were in the rainforest.”
